Somyot Hananuntasuk
b. 1949, currently lives and works in Nonthaburi, Thailand
Somyot Hananuntasuk studied at the College of Fine Arts, the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Arts at Silpakorn University in Bangkok Thailand where he studied and had a chance to work with esteemed artist and poet, Tang Chang. He later furthered his academic training at the Munich Academy of Art in Germany studying painting with Professor Günter Fruhtrunk after obtaining the DADD scholarship in 1972.
His early works belonged to the Surrealism family expressed in mostly black and white paintings painted with oil on canvas. The content of Hananuntasuk’s early works conveys darkness, pressure and frustration and unconsciously reflected his state of mind at the time. He described his works during this time as a sort of therapy, healing his troubles and frustrations through his artistic expressions.
Somyot Hananuntasuk continues his forte in the form of abstract art. In this instance, he challenges himself with a material he has not used extensively before, and his creative process involves a mix of airbrush and collage techniques on leather, presenting patterns of his own design on leather.
